This coming weekend, I’ll be hosting my son’s 7th birthday party, which he has requested to be Super Mario themed. So this month’s Crafty Destash Challenge gave me a golden opportunity to create some Super Mario party decorations ahead of time! Woo-hoo for less procrastination! *Post contains affiliate links. My boys are both huge fans of the Pixar CARS movies, and I had a BLAST making this Radiator Springs birthday cake for my youngest! Now, I will be the first to admit that I do not bake, nor do I create fancy cake decor. I’ve always hired out for that, when and if needed. […]

Summer is such a bright, cheerful time of the year, and it means different things to different people. For me, summer means bbqs, campfires, the smell of freshly cut grass, and . . . birthday party prep. Both of my boys have summer birthdays, and it seems just when I finish planning and executing the first one, it’s time for the next party planning. I used to go really elaborate and crazy in my decorations and prep, but after so many years, I’m dialing it back. I still want my parties to look impressive, just with much less effort!
If you are suffering from tantrum troubles, this easy Good Behavior Ticket and Prize Bucket system might be the perfect solution for you! Easy free printable tickets and inexpensive prizes to redeem have been having great results in our house this summer! I created this project (well, one, for my sanity) as part of […]
I don’t know about your kids, but mine are making me crazy with summer boredom. I’m sure they’d happily watch TV or play video games all day, but even a movie buff like me believes screen time overload is no bueno for the kiddos. Thankfully some of you shared some fabulous summer boredom […]

Welcome back to another month dedicating to de-stashing my craft room clutter! Every month, a group of bloggers challenge each other to create a new craft or project from their own stash of goodies! You must create something primarily from your stash, using a max of $10 for extra supplies, if necessary, to complete […]
It’s time for the Monthly Destash! This month, I sort of cheated. Yeah….I started this challenge and I cheated. But actually not. This month, I decided to destash a project I started THREE YEARS AGO. Three years ago, I had this great idea. I took my son’s hand prints in specific colors to create Avengers […]
Make an easy magnetic morning routine board to help the kiddos stay on track for school!
Normally when we have a boys sleepover at our house, we just rely on the basement playroom and various toys to keep the kids occupied until closer to bedtime when we usually go the movie-and-popcorn route. Since it was a sleepover/birthday party, I decided to make things a little more festive. A quick trip to Walmart and less than $20 worth of supplies and my imagination got to work.
If you have kids – or know anyone who does – you probably have seen plenty of cutesy baby photos showing chubby little bundles sporting monthly baby stickers on their tummies that proclaim “I’m 3 months old!” or “I can crawl!” These stickers have become a staple baby shower gift. While they aren’t terribly expensive, […]
We are big, BIG readers in the Crafty house. I grew up with my nose in a book, and my husband also loves to dig into a good novel series when he finds the time. He introduced me to both Harry Potter AND The Hunger Games, actually.
My boys love to read, and we amass a pretty decent collection of books. Being (almost) six and two, most of ours are board books or easy picture books, but now I’m so excited that J and I have started chapter books together!! So today I’m sharing not only a fun tutorial for making your own bookmarks, but also a great way to share the love of reading with your local charities, just by grocery shopping!

Summer time means lots of things […]
So last year, I was ECSTATIC to win a trip from Jones Family Travels – three nights and three-day park hopper tickets to Disneyland!!! I never win anything, so it was unbelievable that I won. And while it was sudden, there was no way we could pass it up! Miles cashed in for the airfare, […]

One of the best parts of having my boys home with me two days a week is the opportunity to get crafty with my kids. Working from home is hard with two under 6 in the house, and I try my best not to fill their time with too much TV or tablet time. So […]
If you are brand new to C’mon Get Crafty, then you are about to learn what the others already know: I’m a movie freak. I love movies. I was a theatre major in college, and actress from elementary through my late twenties, and I absolutely adore films. I grew up watching everything from black and white classics to Disney. I’m not big on horror films, but everything else is fair game. So what do I typically suggest for family fun during the frigid Chicago winters? Movie Night!! Luckily for me, my husband and 5yo love movies too. So everyone is happy. So, now comes the story. I mean, typically movie nights are culled from our own ever-expanding library of DVD and Blu-rays. Occasionally we will splurge and rent something. Often the choice of film comes down to a drawing of names between the three of us old enough to have opinions. (Sorry H, 18 months doesn’t count.)
