Mother’s Day Card from Scraps!

Okay – it’s not that my mom doesn’t deserve a great card from all new materials – but all you crafters out there are probably just as bad as I am about hoarding paper scraps! Crafters are natural hoarders – every time we clip, snip, or crop, there’s a part of us that dies inside at the idea of wasting those precious, pretty snippets. So I decided to go through my box ‘o scraps, and see what inspired me!  Here’s what I compiled:

Now, ironically, most of what I used isn’t visible in the pile. Oops.

I decided to kind of play as I went – so I started basic. White cardstock, scored and folded in half. (Warning: this post is picture heavy – I know I prefer them that way, so hope you do too!)

First up, I selected two scraps that spoke to me. This lovely blue one already had a cut-out from a previous project using Spellbinders Nestabilities Dies, Labels 14.

The color combination of these two scraps was just too perfect, so I taped the smaller piece to the back of the cutout.

I’d love to give credit for the charming little metal letters I used next, but I snagged them in a batch of used scrapbooking supplies, so their origin is a mystery. 🙁 However, they integrated beautifully into the design! I adhered them with some mini brad fasteners, really liking the initial look.

Digging deeper into my ribbon stash, I unearthed a spool of pretty pink and green striped ribbon and decided to go a bit whimsical across the top of the card, securing it with double-sided tape.  More rummaging unearthed the lovely fake blossoms, and on they went!

The card still needed a sentiment—embossing is always a joy, so it was a definite must for this project! I stamped my message using the “Just for You” sentiment with the Perfect Medium and dusted on some Stampendous Pink Embossing Powder. If you’re not familiar with Perfect Medium – get familiar. I love it. It stamps your image clear, so you can use any color powder you want! After embossing, I cropped the sentiment with my Marvy Scalloped Square Punch.  Turned out pretty nice, I thought. 🙂

To give this card a final touch of personality, I added a few small stickers and sequins from the depths of my crafting drawer. Each element added texture and a hint of sparkle, elevating the overall aesthetic and making this card truly one-of-a-kind.
