A lot of people love to decorate their homes with flowers, mainly because of all the great benefits that come with them – not only are they versatile and pleasant to look at, but they’re also great for your mood and mental health.
But fresh flowers in your decor isn’t always a good idea, even if you do want flowers around you. Not everyone has the time to shop for fresh floral arrangements every week, or the money for monthly flower subscriptions. Then there’s the care you need to give your flowers – changing the water every few days and the arrangements every week. Once you’ve done this for a few weeks, it might start feeling exhausted.
Good news is that there are still ways for you to turn flowers into art that you can use around the house. From scented candles with flowers inside to beautiful wall art, keep reading to find out about some beautiful flower craft you just have to try.
Glass Pressed Flowers
Glass pressed flowers are beautiful and interesting all at the same time. Just like fresh flowers, your choice of flowers for this will depend drastically on the kind of interior you have, the color of the background you want to put the flowers against, and the aesthetic you’re gong for.
If you want something darker, you might want to choose red roses or dark blue or purple flowers that will dry into an even darker color – on the other hand, you can use brighter colors if you don’t want that. You can either make minimalist art with just a single bold and simple bloom standing in the glass, or you can flatten and dry smaller flowers like baby’s breath and some leaves to add to the art.
Take the flowers you chose and flatten them in the middle of a heavy book. Make sure that the flowers are completely flat and let them dry for a couple of weeks. Once you’re sure the flowers are dry and completely flat, you can arrange them in between two pieces of clear glass and put them in a frame.
This can be hanged on the wall and displayed on tabletops.
Floral Wall Art
If you don’t feel like making glass pressed flowers, don’t worry. There’s still a lot of wall art to be made with flowers, like texture collages featuring dried flowers or flower petals, paintings made from flowers, and much more. If you feel like adding something fun but still nature related to your home, how about an owl themed wreath at the door?
You can even use flower petals and other objects from nature to add a new element to acrylic paintings that would otherwise be very simple.
In case you want something simpler, you can simply arrange dried flowers in a collage or select pattern in a picture frame. Dried flowers, when preserved properly and used like this, will last you up to a year or longer.
Homemade Candles With Flowers
If you want to make use of flowers some other way, combine your live for floral scents with another hobby of yours – candle making. They’ll be great for both your own home and as beautiful presents for friends and family.
To make these candles, you will need wax, a cotton candlewick and something to hold it up by, dried flowers, and essential oils. Melt the wax using the right methods and add essential oils, then slowly pour it into a glass jar that you have for the candle. Place the wick inside and prop it up with the help of a pencil so it dries while upright. Now it’s time to place the flowers.
You can place them anywhere you like inside the candle, but we suggest placing your dried flowers on top of the candle and closer to the side where they would be visible.
Handmade Cards
Handmade cards are a great way to show appreciation and love to your friends and loved ones. Accompanying any gifts you give to your friends and family with handmade cards can make them more special, and give the receiver something special to remember the day by.
Once again, this craft is going to use dried flowers since they last longer. You can use fresh flowers for these cards in theory, but the flowers will eventually wilt and you will be left with an incomplete card to keep.
Use cardboard for the cards and cut out rectangular pieces as big as you want your cards to be. Once you’ve folded them, you can decorate the front of the card with glitter or colors, flowers, and ribbons to make a design of your choice.
Dried Flower Phone Case
Who doesn’t love a floral themed phone case? If you’ve wanted one forever and feel like the ones available online don’t fit your budget, don’t worry. We’re going to tell you how to make one of your own.
All you need for this project is a clear phone cover, some vinyl glue, water, a paintbrush, and of course some pressed and dried flowers and leaves.
To make the phone cover, you will need to press the flowers for at least two weeks inside a book before use. This will ensure that the flowers are completely flat and dry – if they’re not, you might risk the flowers wilting inside your phone case or making all your hard work go to waste eventually.
Once you’ve laid out all of your flowers inside the phone case how you’d like, brush over it all with a mix of equal parts vinyl glue and water. Use a simple but clean paintbrush to do it, and then let the glue dry completely before adding another layer. Once this layer is done, your flower phone case is ready to be used.
Dried Flower Coasters
Another thing you can make with dried and pressed flowers is coasters. For this, you might need some skill with resin as well, but once you’re done with your wood, resin, and dried flower coasters, they will be the envy of every house guest who sees them.
Simply lay your dried flowers flat on circular pieces of wood or plastic – make sure your flowers are completely flat for these coasters. Then pour a layer of clear resin over them and let the resin dry. Make sure to move the coasters at least once during the drying process – careful not to disturb any of the resin on top – to avoid any of the material accumulating around the sides of your coasters.https://www.epodex.us/product/epoxy-resin-transparent-clear/resin
