For our most recent annual Chicago Style Party, I decided to roll up my sleeves and make my first attempt at a Chicago Style pizza – deep dish and delicious.
Problem #1? Yeah, I don’t really do “scratch”.
Thankfully, in this great big bloggy world, I’ve met some wonderful bloggers who do do scratch. Cat Yates over at He Married Me For My Cooking sent me her wonderful recipe for deep dish, Chicago Style pizza. Head over and check it out -you’ll likely find a dozen other drool-worthy treats while you’re there! 😉
I was honestly surprised that the dough-making, which I was the most apprehensive about, was so easy! I intended to make two pizzas to fill all the bellies attending the party, so I doubled the recipe. As you’ll see later….I didn’t have to do that.
After the dough had properly raised, I filled my pans. Now, I don’t own deep dish pizza pans. I don’t know if those are even things that exist. My non-cooking-things-from-scratch brain figured a large, deep frying pan and round cake tin would work just fine. I mean, they’re round, right?
Problem #2 – Remember what I said about not needing to double the recipe?
Yeah, didn’t need to do that. Should have gotten bigger pans though!
Despite the crazy three-layer-cake-look of my pies, they still tasted amazing, and were greedily gobbled by our guests. So lesson learned but delicious served! 🙂
What is your favorite kind of pizza? I promise only to judge New Yorkers. 😉
I love linking up at these parties , and at House of Rose!
