I’ve discovered a fun new tradition this Christmas season – “We’ve Been Elfed!”
My neighbors are starting to step up their game this year I think, since we received a “You’ve Been Boo’d” basket around Halloween, full of fun snacks and treats. The trend of anonymously leaving decorated gift baskets on your neighbor’s porch has a sweet, considerate feel to it that I think everyone can appreciate. I didn’t get a chance to “Boo” anyone, so I’m paying it forward by “Elfing” instead!
I got the idea while passing the American Greetings displays in Walmart during a routine grocery run. There are so many cute stickers and bags and gift wrap available for Christmas!
American Greetings offered up a free printable, but that link has disappeared since this content was originally posted. No worries – I got you! I created a free printable for you to use, grab it at the bottom of this post! ⬇️

I snagged some stickers and a few treats on my way out and headed home to get started on my Elf Basket!
I wanted to dress up my “basket” a bit, so I decided to make it literally an elf. Here’s what you need to make yours!

What you Need to make your elf basket
Colored card stock paper
Scissors
Double sided tape
Gift Bag
Tissue Paper
Stickers/treats/goodies for filling

Construct Your Basket
To give my elf basket a true elf look, I pulled out some black and colored card stock paper to make his shoes and hat. I freehand drew an elf shoe on one side of the black cardstock, but you could also look for a printable template online. I cut out my shoe and copied it on the reverse for two shoes.

Next, I cut out some trim for his shoes and a jingly ball for his toes.

Using the double sided tape, I constructed his shoes and adhered them to the bag. I repeated the process for his hat and my elf basket was ready to fill!
I picked up some stickers and small M&Ms treats at the store, but I took it one step further by whipping up some M&M pretzel bark and wrapping it in the colorful tissue paper. Obviously, I love M&M’s, since I put them on brownies and in my candy bark, and I assume most people do too!

Now to fill my elf basket full of goodies and pick out my neighbor to surprise! I grabbed the printable from the American Greetings inspiration site as well. (See it here, the site no longer offers it)

I popped over to our next door neighbor and quickly dropped the bag on their step. It was so much fun elfing, I may need to do it some more!

If you’re interested in “elfing” someone, don’t forget to grab the free printable!
