How to Make Paper Flowers {January Craft De-stash Challenge}

January 17, 2017July 26, 2018 Megan 13 comments
Check out an easy way to create paper flowers or pinwheels!

After having already started my post-Christmas winter clean up, it was only natural that I should move on to my craft room. I’ve been hoarding stuff there for years!

It occurred to me that other DIY and crafters would probably have the same issues I have with overflowing cabinets of papers, fabrics, and various crafty goodies; I checked with a few blog buddies and discovered my hunch was correct. So I proposed a De-Stash Challenge!

Over twenty bloggers have come together to create crafts from stash! Check out all the great things you can make from craft supplies you probably already have!

For this “Craft From Your Stash”, I challenged all participating bloggers to craft something – anything – using primarily supplies they already had on hand. If outside supplies were needed, they were not to exceed $10 in spending.

For mine, I didn’t spend a dime! Woo hoo!!

Ever since I stopped making my Birthday Blocks, I have a CRAZY supply of paper squares, in so many patterns and colors. I used to cut them in bulk and save for future orders. One of the blocks I created was for Cubs fans, so I had these Cubs patterned squares.

Now, in case you’ve been under a rock this past year, my beloved Cubs WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!! For the first time in over a 100 years!!!  So I decided to craft something out of these to honor my boys in blue. That’s when I remembered an old origami way to make paper flowers!

Step One

I started with one paper square. Fold it in half to make a triangle.

Step Two

Next, fold up the two corners to create a diamond.

Unfold and flatten the corners. Then tuck in the top and refold.

Fold it over and secure the two tabs with glue or double sided tape.

Step Five

I used hot glue to secure the flower petals to each other, and more to layer on top.

 I used a wooden skewer, and pierced the underside center of my flower before sticking it inside a vase. Given more time (and more squares), I could have made a whole bouquet! Hey, at least not I know what to do with my remaining squares!
