How to Make a Wedding Card from Paper Scraps #MovieMondayChallenge

It’s the final Monday of the month, and you know what that means! It’s #MovieMonday!!!

On the last Monday of each month, I host a group of bloggers in a #MovieMondayChallenge! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful! We’ve had recipes and crafts in the past and it’s always a lot of fun. For the month of June, we decided on wedding themed movies, and everyone got to pick their own. I immediately chose My Best Friend’s Wedding.

I’ve loved this movie for years! If you’ve never seen it, here’s the gist: Julia  Roberts plays commitment-shy Jules Potter, who reluctantly realizes she is in love with her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney). There is just one catch: he’s about to marry someone else (Cameron Diaz). Jules has one weekend to try to win Michael back, and she goes through some outlandish and hysterical foils in her attempts.

One of the best scenes in this movie is a full family sing along in a restaurant, led by Jules’ editor and confidante, George, played brilliantly by Rupert Everett. George breaks out into a spirited rendition of “I Say a Little Prayer For You”, getting all of the new in-laws to be to join in. It’s the highlight of the film, IMO. Catch the scene on youtube here.

Inspired by the rousing chorus of “Forever and ever, you’ll stay in my heart. . .” I decided that would be the sentiment on the DIY wedding card I would make for my cousin Caitlynne, whose wedding was this past Saturday!

 

I had been planning originally to make her a card from all my paper scraps as part of our monthly #CraftDestash challenge, but it worked just as well for this post!

For this project your will need:

• Card stock
• Scor Tape, or doublesided tape
• Sticker maker or spray adhesive
• Bone folder
• Glitter
• Clear glue
• Cricut machine
• Stamps
• Inkpads
• Embossing ink and powder
• Heat tool

I managed to rummage through my scraps and come up with card stock in black, white, gray, and lilac. The wedding colors were lilac and navy, so I thought it was fitting!

 

 

These scraps of card stock were leftover from my Reversible Halloween Wreath and Morning Routine chart projects. I trimmed off the used portions and folded the black card stock in half to create my wedding card base.

 

 

On the top of the black card stock, for the front of my wedding card, and trimmed the gray card stock down to fit with a thin line of black running the outer edges, and secured it with scor tape.  Using a thick white card stock, I cut out a card image with champagne glasses clinking. I had to use the posterboard setting on my Cricut for a clean cut due to the paper thickness. Most of the time, the card stock setting will work just fine however.

I lined up my white cardstock over the gray, and used a mix of clear glue and silver glitter to create a shimmery effect behind the cut out of the champagne flutes. I cut my sentiment of “Forever and Ever” from two separate cuts – the word “forver” and “ever after”. I snipped the decorate part of the ‘A’ in “after” to use as my ampersand.

Because these words were so thin and delicate, I sprayed the back with spray adhesive to adhere them to the front of the card. You could also run them through a sticker maker, but mine was out of sticker paper.

 

The images I used for this card were from the Tie the Knot cartridge. You can also buy them individually, or access all Cricut images for one low monthly fee!

I layered a white rectangle inside the card and stamped “Congratulations” in black Versamark ink.

 

 

I used the white cut out of the champagne flutes on the opposite side of the inside of the wedding card, as well as a calla lily sticker leftover from a wedding sticker set.

My cousin’s groom happens to be a vet who loves turtles, so I wanted to make sure he was represented on my card. It’s his wedding too, after all! He had already let us know he was surprising her by hiding little turtle elements throughout the reception. We were told to #Findtheweddingturtles all night! It was a fun little hunt.

I found a turtle stamp in my stash, perfect for the back of the card!

 

 

With a little embossing ink and lilac embossing powder, I was able to set the turtle on the black card stock. If you’ve never used embossing ink/powder before, it’s super easy! I have a heat tool I use to set it, but you could use a hair dryer in a pinch.

 

 

 

And that was that!! I wrapped the DIY Wedding Sign I’d made for them earlier and we were ready to go! (And I discovered later that my cousin is one of the few family members who does follow my blog, so she knew what her gift was ahead of time! Oops!!)
