What You Need To Make This DIY State Love Wood Sign
- Wood sign or board
- Stain or paint for wood
- vinyl
- state outline
- acrylic paint
For this craft, I was originally considering trying my hand at string art, but the intricate bumps and ridges of the California coastline changed my mind pretty quick! Instead I cut out vinyl silhouettes on my Cricut and laid them on my stained wood board, left over from a forgotten craft. Next I grabbed some chalk paint for a nice distressed look.
Make sure your vinyl coverage is sealed nicely on your wood before you start painting. Go in strokes and don’t glop it on or it might seep through the edges.
After sufficient drying time, carefully peel off the vinyl. I was pretty happy with the start contrast of the stained wood against the white distressed top. I freehand painted some pink hearts near Chicago and San Juan Capistrano, where he’s divided his time for 25 years or so.

I love personalizing wood signs! So much fun.
With all the quotes I want to make, my house would be nothing but signs! HA!
Great project! I need to dust off my Cricut. 🙂
