Crafty Quickie: DIY Chalkboard Clipboard

Chalkboard Clipboard

Today’s Crafty Quickie is a chalkboard clipboard I made – I used vinyl in my Cricut, but you can paint or use stickers too!

When we first got home to Chicago, I had to set up my home office. Thankfully, my brother had inherited a large, awesome desk and a few trappings that he couldn’t fit in his apartment, so I lucked out. In one of the drawers, I found a long wooden clipboard, pretty basic and boring. I naturally assumed it could be redone with a bit of panache. (And yes, I cleared its re-purposing with my baby bro.)

I already knew where I wanted to put it. My desk sits just outside the kitchen, andI have a view of the side of the cabinets, where this was hanging:

Chalkboard paint comes in so many forms now, but I like quick ‘n easy, so I opted for Rustoleum Chalkboard Spray Paint.  I love ANY paint I can spray.

First, I taped off the metallic clip – I wanted the pretty silver sheen against my black board.

Lesson One of crafting? Be flexible. The paint coated the board, but it was a little too rough a surface to get any nice writing on.

Luckily I had some leftover chalkboard sheets, so I cut a strip and wrapped it around the middle of the board. Perfect!

I wanted to add some pretty features, so I used my ever-popular Word Collage cartridge on my Cricut to cut some pretty embellishments.

I cut my words out of vinyl, and hung on the wall. Voila! Much better than that old. neglected calendar.

What would you make over in chalkboard paint?
