Ok, moms, who is with me? My 8yo breaks into the “Orange Justice” Fortnite dance at any opportunity, and I feel lost. I consider myself a good “boy mom”, keeping up on games and things (I was a tomboy myself!) but this new fad is leaving me behind.
I’m sort of okay with it since he’s got great rhythm and I’m an advocate of the arts, I just don’t speak this particular gaming language. Floss? The Hype? Orange Justice? (I absolutely referred to this as Orange Julius without batting an eye or caring.)
Since my 8yo and 4yo are absolutely tired of sharing a room, we’re separating them and allowing for some new decor. Shocking that J wants all Fortnite. No offense, but I am OVER themed rooms. Both of my boys have grown out of their Cars and Avengers themed decor, so we are grabbing new bedding in color blocks vs themes. I told them wall art/posters were their only options for a theme like Fortnite.

Ok, so for this post, I must apologize. I need a few photography updates, or better weather. (Probably both.) It took me FOREVER to get these photos! Here’s a little peek behind the blogger scene. . . when we create things, sometimes we can’t prove it! Seriously, the natural lighting and things come into play, and when you’re in Chicago in the midst of snowstorms and clouds, it can pretty much suck.
Everyone wants the pretty and bright Good Housekeeping sort of pics, but us real people don’t always (never) have those lighting crews. And this is coming from someone related to an Emmy Award winning lighting designer! (Humble brag.) However, it didn’t work that way, but on the plus side, I made some Fortnite bedroom decor my son is excited about!
Not going to lie, I’m a bit sad that my sons already want separate bedrooms, but I get it. They are four years apart, and it is definitely starting to show. So here we go! Now to create two new rooms…..you know I hate this right? (As I cross my fingers behind my back.)
For this project, I was able to de-stash for ZERO dollars! I already had three 12×12 canvas in stock, along with the vinyl, and of course, my Cricut Explore! Since we nixed the themed room ideas, the boys had to choose their decor to be changeable. This made for some easy Fortnite additions for J.
Supplies Needed
- Canvas or Wood canvas
- Modge Podge
- Vinyl
- Design (free download below!!)
Obviously it is easiest to cut this design on a cutter like Cricut Explore, but if you don’t have one, you can freehand – or mooch off a friend who does!! Once you’ve uploaded the design to Cricut Design Space, you just need to size them all the same and cut! For my project I did the following:
- 3 equal sizes of 10.777*9.67 in Cricut Design Space
- three black vinyl cuts
- two color cuts (one blue for Hype and one red for Justice)
- transfer tape
- bone folder
Since I told J we had to colo rblock plan his room, rather than burp Fortnite all over it, we went with a red, blue, and white color theme. CUBS FANS!! So I kept to those themes with my design. I downloaded a few silhouettes from the web and added my personal phrasing. The dance images showed up white (so hard to see below ) , but I was able to upload them as cut images and it all worked out.
**As always, any designs on my site belong to me and are not to be used for commercial purposes of any kind. Please always link back to my site when sharing free downloads. Thank you!!**
Once the design was cut, I used my transfer tape and bone folder to apply them to the canvas. With this medium, (soft canvas), it helps to put a book or some other hard flat object beneath to help smooth the design over the canvas with the bone folder. FYI.
For two of the designs, I double layered with black and colored vinyl, leaving “Floss Like a Boss” flat black. Personal choice, you do you.
Transfer tape is my sweetie pie. LOVE THIS STUFF.
Also, here’s my sweet J showing off his moves (ignore the commerical audio). . . kid’s got talent! He loves his new room decor!!
Let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create!!
Your graphic signs look great and I’m sure your kids love them, too! But this is beyond anything I know about boys and what they like these days! Your son looks too cute dancing and he’s really into it, too! He looks like he’s on one of the commercials that’s out there now! I’m just lost when it comes to the dances these days.
What a cutie! I loved his dancing. Your pictures are a great idea and can be changed out so easily; I have also seen where someone did art on lthe reverse side, too! When my 35 yo son was back in school, he danced with light sticks and twirled them to make a sphere. Cussing when he missed; it hurt! I am sure you can find pillowcases or cloth to make your own pillows/pillowcases for a touch more of their own themes–not a budget breaker! My poor SO sleeps on pc covered with pink roses, but then, I sleep on flannel penguins! Now 67, I taught my affiliating students how to do the twist; dry off with a bath towel in both hands and stub out cigarettes with your toe and heel. Who said dancing was hard?
I love the dance decor. I will do this for my son ‘s room. He loves music to bits.
How fun! I love the floss dance, but I can’t do it! Lol. This decor is so unique and fun any kid would love it!
When we moved a few years ago, I too was over theme bedrooms. We picked some basic colors then decorated with wall art… I hand painted 6 Minecraft pictures for my son. He loved them! I was heartbroken a few months ago when he took them off his wall and brought them to me, asking me to paint over them with something Fortnight themed instead! I’m not willing to paint over these yet, but I am probably going to have to make him some new ones following your lead.
