DIY Stained Glass Vase {Inspired by Beauty and the Beast}

When I found this vase at the thrift store, I knew it needed to become a stained glass vase in honor of Beauty and the Beast! #MovieMonday

Welcome back to another #MovieMonday challenge! I’m sooo excited for this month’s challenge, since it is inspired by the new version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast that is due to premiere on March 17th. Squeal!!

Come see what a group of bloggers can do when inspired by the new Beauty and the Beast movie! #MovieMonday

For my part, I had a few different ideas, but they all revolved around vases. Perhaps it was inspiration from the beautiful bell jar containing the Beast’s magical rose, but I couldn’t get past a vase concept.

I had a few plain glass vases tucked away in crafty storage (one reason I love hosting my monthly craft destash challenge!) and a handful of ideas of how to decorate them.

I really wanted to incorporate the colors of the film, similar to how I was inspired by color on last month’s The Princess Bride challenge.  I might still make another vase, since I ended up with something far different than my original idea after I found this vase at the thrift store.

After I found this, how could I not turn it into a stained glass vase, inspired by the beautiful windows of the Beast’s castle? I had to.

For This Craft, You Will Need:

  • clear glass vase
  • glass paints (I used DecoArt Gloss Enamels)
  • paintbrushes

Now, I know not everyone will stumble upon a vase that is so perfect for stained glass style, but you can still make this craft. Using either a marker or hot glue gun, you can create your glass frames first.

Since my vase was ideally suited, I just got to work painting random fragments in all the colors that reminded me of the movie; red, blue, purple, yellow, green, brown, and white.

I ended up with about three coats per color on my stained glass vase. You can see in the photo above that the brush strokes showed through on a few colors, but this is only one coat. After the final quote, you can sort of smear it a bit to remove any remaining stroke marks.

I opted for yellow roses tinged with red to fill my vase. Red roses may have looked a little better, but I liked the contrast and inclusion of two prominent colors from the film.

This could easily be a fun craft to do with your kids, or a great display at a princess birthday party!

When picking up my flowers, I snagged this cute mini bell jar stand and a corsage box of rose petals. Can’t have a Beauty and the Beast post without a bell jar, right??

    Your stained glass vase is beautiful! I love how you used all the vibrant colors. That vase was begging to be used for this project and it turned out so pretty.
