We absolutely love Family Movie Night at our house – it is one of the best ways to unwind after a hectic week and a great excuse for snuggles with my boys. Whenever we need a new movie, I check out the electronics section at our local Walmart. It’s nice to get the grocery shopping out of the way and snag a new movie to watch!
While browsing the electronics section, I noticed this advertisement for the new Ghostbusters movie and a special VR experience. Two things occurred to me; I could grab the new Ghostbusters movie for our movie night AND I could finally grab that extra phone line we keep talking about for the house!
Mr. Crafty and I have discussed several times having a phone available at home that we would allow J to have access to. We keep our personal phones locked, but in case of an emergency, I really want him to be able to call for help. The Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan is a perfect fit for our family. The Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE – plus a free movie on VUDU every month ($7 value) per line for $49.88 is super cost-effective and more than enough for a first phone.
I found a great fit for J with the LG K7 – $49.88 (Rollback from $89.88). I also grabbed the Nano Starter Kit and since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up. Gotta love a good deal!
No way was I leaving without the new Ghostbusters on Blu-ray, especially since it’s the extended edition with over 15 more minutes not seen in theaters plus over 3 hours of hilarious extras. Special features are one of my favorite parts of movie night! Besides, ever since the hubby talked me into the new 4K Ultra HD TV currently residing in our living room, he’s basically drooled over all new 4K movie releases – which Ghostbusters has available. I also grabbed a DVD copy for my mom, who has yet to jump on the Blu-Ray bandwagon.
Now to get home, show J his new phone and set it up, then prep for movie night! Most of the time our movie nights are fairly basic, the typical popcorn sort of deal. Every now and then, though, I like to make it a little more special – and a new movie is a great excuse for a little something extra. I grabbed some necessities for a delicious sweet and salty snack bar – Ghostbusters themed of course!
For my Sweet and Salty Snack Bar, I made the following:
Homemade tortilla chips and “I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost” Dip
“Slime”-berries – chocolate covered strawberries
“Proton Blasts” – chocolate dipped pretzel rods
These are quite simple to make, and always a hit! Melt green chocolate candy melts at 30 second intervals until nice and gooey, then dip in strawberries and lay out on a sheet of wax paper. Refrigerate for 20 min and enjoy!
For the “Proton Blasts”, similar idea – just dip or drizzle pretzel rods with red melted chocolate candy melts!
But the real star of this movie themed snack bar is my I Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost dip and homemade tortilla chips! This one was fun to make and definitely got the most attention!
You will need:
Salsa
Guacamole
Cojita or Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Black Olives
Low carb tortillas
Olive oil
Sea salt
I like to make our own tortilla chips – it’s easier to keep carbs low and not eat an entire bag in one sitting! All you need to do is brush tortillas, front and back, with olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Run a pizza cutter through them to make “chips” and bake at 425 deg for about 6-7 min. Ovens vary – you may need to go longer if they seem too chewy.
Now, to make your dip. This one is really easy!
Fill a bowl with a nice even layer of guacamole. Totally up to you if you prefer to make yours from scratch, but I have a preference for certain brands that I use.
Next, spoon salsa in a circle around the edge of the bowl.
Once you have a complete circle outline, start to create your “ghost” with the shredded cheese. After you have him filled in, spoon another line of salsa over his torso to match the logo. Finish with black olives for his face.
Just like a ghost, watch this disappear!! You have the perfect combo of sweet and salty snacks for movie night! I added some plastic tablecloths and a simple banner to finish the job.
My mom wasn’t around for me to gift her the DVD copy, so it became part of the decor 😉 Also, fun little hack – if you tape a penny or a dime to the back bottom of any paper garland, you don’t have to worry about them spinning or laying oddly when you hang them!
Now time to sit back and watch the movie! We hauled our Blu-Ray and movie night snacks to our friend’s theater room for a full on experience!
And since we have that awesome VUDU free new release rental offer, I may or may not have borrowed the new phone to peruse all the possibilities of what to watch next. . .
If you have considered switching up or starting a new phone plan, I would definitely check out the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan. Take advantage of the offer and snag Ghostbusters on Blu-ray for the extended edition extras while you’re at it!
