Game Time Snack Ideas

Are you guys in the midst of football fever as we near the end of the season? I swear, every hangout we’ve attended recently is overrun with football! But let’s face it, any excuse is a good excuse to party with friends, and pigskin is just another great reason to eat, drink, and be merry!

Whenever I’m hosting friends at our place, I like to get creative with my food options. {You can only eat so many chicken wings, amiright?} Finger foods and snacks are often much simpler and popular at these sort of gatherings than any main dish, IMO.

But I get tired of the same old chips and dips routine, so I assume others do too. So I’m sharing with you guys my ALWAYS popular homemade pesto Brie appetizer! Stay tuned at the bottom for a cute craft tutorial that’s a perfect (and simple!) addition to your big game party.

Homemade Pesto Brie

This dish is insanely simple to prepare (which is how I like to cook!) and always gets rave reviews. It really takes you out of the basic cheese-and-crackers motif.

You will need:

2 cups fresh basil leaves
1/4 cup pine nuts
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic
1 cup fresh grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Brie wheel

You guys, if you’ve never made fresh pesto, give this a shot RIGHT NOW. I used to always buy it, but then a friend of mine showed me how stupid simple it is to make, and fresh pesto is hard to beat!

Homemade Pesto

Using a chopper or food processor, combine the basil, pine nuts, and garlic cloves and pulse chop to mix them up.

making pesto from scratch

It’ll be a rough consistency at this point.  Pour in about your olive oil and blend till smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour your mixture into a serving bowl and stir in your Parmesan cheese. Done!

This will make more pesto than you need for the Brie, but I love having it on hand for pastas later anyway! Plus you can use the remainder as or in a dip at your party!

Fresh pesto

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Spread pesto over the top of the Brie rind, and bake for about ten minutes. You should be able to poke your Brie softly and feel a nice softness to it, but you don’t want it super runny either.

Pesto Brie and Ritz crackers

Doesn’t that look phenomenal? You can create a pretty display by circling the Brie with RITZ® crackers. RITZ® are perfect for topping with the gooey cheese – they add just the right amount of crunch!

I’m not trying to be immodest, but I promise you guys that you will score BIG TIME with your fans friends, with this served up at your party.

Right now is a perfect time to nab these classic crackers too, since they know they are football season favorites, and are well stocked at your local Walmart.

While you’re there, don’t forget to pick up a few 6-packs of Coca-Cola to go along with my football glass craft!

While gearing up for the big game, you can get 2 for $5 on all Coca-Cola 500ml 6-packs. I love a good deal!

In keeping with my typical laziness, this craft is super simple and quick, but also adds a really cute touch to your big game spread.

You could easily do this on clear plastic cups if you didn’t feel like washing a bunch of dishes. I used my stemless wine glasses because I though the rounded bottoms looked more “football-esque”. 😉

how to make football glasses

Grab your drink-ware, some white vinyl (easily found in the craft section), and your Coca-Cola six packs.

Cut the vinyl into thin little strips, reserving a long one for each cup, and snipping the rest in half. Then lay a long strip vertically down each glass, covering it horizontally with three of the small strips, spaced out to resemble football laces.

Easy peasy! Add ice and your preferred version of Coca-Cola, and you’re done! Cute and delicious!
