A long time ago, in one of my first ever blog posts, I showed how I had hand-painted a wine glass as a 30th birthday present for my best friend. She was being surprised with a trip to Las Vegas (where we lived at the time) to visit us and celebrate the milestone event. I’d never painted a wine glass before, but I was pretty happy with it:
My post about it was little more than these photos, since I was brand-spanking new to blogging and I don’t believe I intended it to be a post originally.
Fast forward a few years to my aunt’s {cough, sputter, insert number} birthday. A cousin who lives with my aunt decided to surprise her with a girls night party for her birthday. In my family, coming up with girls is NOT difficult. We have a lot of family nearby and that particular weekend more family was going to be in town as well.
One of my cousins set to work making photo booth props as a fun addition to the night. Another one with a talent for baking promised to make the cake and treats. I offered to contribute some fun souvenir wine glasses to mark the occasion.
For the 12-14 ladies we were expecting for this grand occasion, I had no desire to hand-paint each glass. Besides, what else do I have my wonderful cutting machines for if not situations like this!? So let me show you how I created my fun Girls Night wine glass craft, and you can go make some for yourself!

On this particular project, I opted to use my Silhouette instead of my trusty Cricut. I was really only cutting out words, and since I don’t have the Cricut Explore {yet}, the Silhouette is the only way to cut out any font I wanted.
I decided on the phrase, “You’re never too old for Girls Night!” for the front of each glass, and each lady’s name on the back. I selected my fonts for each word in Silhouette’s software program, and sized accordingly for the glasses I’d bought. These are definitely smaller wine glasses than I’d normally want or use, but since I had to buy enough for 13 ladies, I went with cost-effective over size. 😉
For some added glam and glitz, I painted the bottoms of the glasses with sparkly glitter paint. After coating the bottom, I sort of “stamped” the paint in a circle with the tip of a sponge brush for a scalloped look.
Just for fun (and to challenge my brain, lol), I mixed up the colors of the words and bases of the glasses.
I packed ’em up and headed off to the party! You can see my talented cousin turned out one heck of a cake!
That’s a talent I never got. I can’t bake a thing.
The photo booth props were equally fun. Even the cats got in on it!
My aunt was thrilled, and everyone loved their souvenir glass. Sometimes, you really just need a girls night!
