I don’t know about where you live, but here in the Midwest it is MUGGY and HOT! Having survived the Vegas desert heat for five years, I feel bad for complaining, but man, the humidity is a killer! That’s why I love to enjoy a refreshing cool drink when the heat gets oppressive….and, let’s face it, after a long day, typically that drink is a cocktail.
After hosting a couple of parties, I’m sure you, like me, end up collecting a lot of odds and ends in your liquor cabinet. Grocery shopping and bar restock isn’t until next week, so when in need of a refreshing new drink, sometimes you have to get inventive. A package of strawberries on their last days and a leftover bottle of watermelon flavored vodka sparked my new drink:
Strawberry Melon Fizz
Summer isn’t the time anyone wants to pack on the pounds, and, sadly, alcohol is not the greatest way to keep slim. However, assuming you aren’t knocking back dozens, the occasional light cocktail shouldn’t derail you. For myself, I started mixing light flavored vodkas with soda water to keep the calories low. I took it one step further with my Strawberry Melon Fizz concoction by adding in fresh fruit puree.
I guess my old bar tending days haven’t completely evaporated from my tired Mommy brain – this drink was absolutely delicious!
Strawberry Melon Fizz
Ingredients
- 1.5 oz watermelon flavored vodka
- 1/4 cup strawberry pureè
- 3 oz soda water
Instructions
- Puree strawberries and pour into cocktail shaker filled with ice. Add watermelon vodka and shake well. Strain over ice in a glass and top with soda water. Garnish with strawberry and mint sprig if desired.
This would also be a pretty easy drink for a large crowd if you made the puree ahead of time and had it available with the vodka and soda water for mixing. It would likely be the hit of any summer party!
