On the last (or fourth) Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!

This month’s challenge was. . . . Mothers! Your Mom’s Favorite Film, or just a movie about motherhood! Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite film so long as it was inspired by the challenge word.

They say it takes a village, and as a mother myself I would have to agree 100%. I love that this movie/play is such a beautiful example of sisterhood. There is a village of strong and amazing women inspiring each other and holding each other up to the light in their darkest hours. LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie.

I just love playing with printables, so I made a few in tribute!

If you have never seen this play or film, first of all – shame! LOL. However, you are definitely missing out. Here’s a synopsis from the IMDB page:

Pivoting around the lively Truvy Jones’ Louisiana beauty parlour, a tightly-knit band of friends, confront griefs, loss, life’s unforeseen tragedies and heartaches with what they do best: gossiping and sharing. The spirited diabetic and bride-to-be, Shelby; her always supportive mother, M’Lynn; Truvy’s gawky assistant, Annelle; the city’s curmudgeon, Ouiser; and the town’s former first lady, Clairee, are the warm Southern belles who know how to survive life’s challenges with their unwavering friendship. But when Shelby decides to conceive, things will turn upside down..

If you’re a frequent reader then you know my love of movies and movie quotes. I decided to take a few of the hundreds of quotable lines from Steel Magnolias and make some fun photo props! These would be amazing for a Steel Magnolias party or Steel Magnolias wedding photo booth!

I love so many things about this movie, from the snark to the sweet. I’m not even close to being a Southern belle, farm grown Midwest girl that I am. However, in my next life I think a Southern belle sounds divine! By far my favorite characters in this film are Olympia Dukakis as Clairee and Shirley MacLaine as Ouiser, closely followed by Dolly Parton’s Truvy. These ladies embody the idea of sisterhood and their devotion is worthy of a good cry.

Shelby gets married in the beginning of the movie, so weddings are a perfect correlation. However, the female relationships run this movie and you can easily see how many “mothers” it can take to raise a family.  No mom stands alone.

Ouiser Boudreaux, played brilliantly by Shirley MacLaine, is by far my favorite character. Watch the movie, and you will laugh your butt off at most of her lines, but especially the fabulous camraderie with Claireè (Dukakis).
