Adding a little glam to your home can be tremendous fun. There’s something uplifting about a little glitz and glitter!
Not actual glitter. That’s the crafty equivalent of a sparkly tornado through your sanity.
Now, of course you can opt for a full on glam decor style, pay top dollar for all the shimmer and shine. That of course comes with a price, and requires REALLY good taste to keep it appealing and not garish. You don’t want to live inside a disco ball!
So why not add some DIY glam instead?
It’s pretty simple, it just requires the proper approach. As someone who prefers to sprinkle vs saturate, here’s how to add a little glam to your home, one step at a time.

Embrace Bold Walls
Neutral walls are calming and relaxing (and go nicely with all your furniture), but they’re not exactly glam. That’s why embracing boldness can be so much fun. Adding bright colors to a statement wall can transform your interiors.
I am a bold wall evangelist. When we moved into our house, it was a whole vibe of builder beige and random yellow walls – no thanks. First thing I did was paint our main areas in a deep blue/gray, and later added a rich plum-purple to our powder room.
(You can find all my personal makeovers in my gallery.)
Alongside some Parisian accents in silver and black, my powder room got some instant DIY glam! Check out the after below – you can see the before in the post!

You don’t have to go full jewel-tone, either. You can also try:
- A moody black or navy backdrop for your art or mirrors
- A statement wall with metallic paint or wallpaper
- Wall stencils for visual texture (check out what I did in our dining room!)
However, being bold isn’t the only way to be glamorous. You can also give your walls playful patterns or add metallic accents to up the ante a bit. Just doing something different can change how your walls feel. And yes, I definitely did that too, in my dining room!

Install Luxe Lighting
Lighting makes or breaks a room—and it’s one of the easiest places to sprinkle in glam. Mirrors that reflect the volume of the space can add instant glam and enable you to indulge in playful colors and shapes.
The best lighting for glam homes is recessed. It creates a fantastic ambiance and shows off all your characterful décor. However, some glam homes also make heavy use of series lighting, another good option. My husband got us all set up with combinations of Philips Hue and Wyze lighting, so we can color code our house and control everything through apps on our phone and Alexa!
We fancy.
Add A Hot Tub
Okay, I don’t have one, but if we’re talking full glam fantasy, let’s throw a hot tub into the mix. NO glamorous home is complete without a hot tub, whether in the bathroom, ensuite, or outside. These home additions represent the ultimate in decadence, helping you relax and unwind after a long day at work.
Don’t worry about maintenance, either. Many homeowners use a hot tub cleaning service to do it for them. Once you have a hot tub, you can entertain your guests in style.
Add Vintage Flair
Glam doesn’t always mean new. I love mixing vintage and glam for a cozy, collected look that still feels elevated.
Some ideas:
- Antique candle holders or trays for bathroom or vanity decor
- Thrifted mirrors with ornate frames
- DIY-finished frames for gallery walls
You can also try adding vintage frames. These help your pictures stand out and take on a new character all of their own. In some cases, you can DIY thrift store or dollar store frames to give a vintage feel, even create a full gallery wall like I did in two rooms of my home and for my mother’s hallway.
I used a few different DIY methods to create the unique, vintage feel that complemented our family history of black and white photos.

Sprinkle Metallic Accents Throughout
You don’t need to bathe your living room in gold foil, but a few well-placed metallic touches can work wonders.
Adding copper here, and gold and silver there immediately gives your interiors a chic, luxury look. For instance, place your flowers in silver julep cups and your candles in gold and bronze votives (like these from from Jamali Garden). Don’t be afraid to go all out.
I love mixing finishes too – it gives a more curated, layered look. Pair bronze with chrome, gold with glass, or sneak in a mirrored cabinet for max impact. Adding strips of metal to your walls or mirrored cabinets can be an excellent way to introduce space, metallicity, and volume into your rooms.
Add The Right Scents

This one gets overlooked all the time, but scent is part of your home’s vibe!
- Add fresh flowers to your vanity
- Use candles with glam containers (or make your own!)
- Diffuse essential oils with spa-like blends
- Burn incense or simmer stovetop potpourri when hosting
My go-to? A vanilla-amber candle and a clean kitchen. That combo makes me feel like I have my life together.
Getting the fragrance right communicates with people on an unconscious level with even more glitz.
