Another room in the new house is done! (For now.) All hail my pretty new mudroom!
Once I got our Powder Room spiffied up, I turned my attention to starting a mudroom makeover. We pretty much always use the garage entrance to the house, so walking in to the blah, boring, often messy room was harshing my “new house” buzz. Drastic measures were called for!
Not exactly in the budget though. Damn. What now?
How to spruce up this mess??
Someday I’m sure I’ll go really crazy in here, add some custom built ins and new floors, but for now all I needed was some brightening and storage updates. My sad little Thirty-One laundry hamper and the basic wire shelving was not exactly cutting it.
You know I love a good rehab! I found these solid, ugly cabinets in an online sale for $25. Score!
When I did this project, I had not yet discovered the beautiful world of chalk paint, so I opted to try the Rust-Oleum Cabinet Transformations
Cabinet Kit Sm Light (affiliate link) instead. For my mudroom makeover, I went with the white.
While the cabinets were drying (over several days), I got started on my arts and crafts portion of the makeover. All hail the stencil!
Let me tell you the key to stenciling – Stencil Adhesive Spray.
GET SOME OF THAT. Works AMAZING. I reused the same stencil for about 75% of the wall before I was forced to get a new one.
With the stenciling done and the cabinets hung (thank you to my hubby!), the laundry room was really pulling together. I finished styling it with a hanging rack from Walmart, a bulletin board covered in the peel and stick wallpaper from Target (Devine Color in Firefly), and a coating of pale grey paint on two of the formerly yellow walls. Yellow and grey is just such a pretty combination, don’t you think?
SOO much nicer. Sigh of contentment.
I love how the distressed WASH letters I found at Hobby Lobby on Clearance were a perfect fit for my new mudroom!
A little vinyl on an apothecary jar created a cute Lost & Found for all those lonely socks, and I created the “Know When to Fold Them” printable on Picmonkey. Guess what? I’m going to let you have it too!
One more look:
Ha! I even let my laundry run while I snapped the afters. So you can be sure it is a functioning mud room, lol. 😉
What room in your house do you most want to make over?
I love linking up at these parties!
