Today I spent the morning at a local craft fair, and was fortunate to meet many wonderful local artists – some with the most inventive crafts I’ve ever seen. If I had had a credit card with me instead of just cash, I’d probably be looking down the business end of a hissy fit when I got home and ‘fessed up my spending to the hubs.
One of the most unique and wonderful displays I saw was a tent labeled FLAKY FRIENDS, with tables covered in various mixed-up plushies, all with very interesting backstories, freely offered up by their creator Sarah Flake as you browsed. I was introduced to Professor Banana, whom Ms. Flake informed me has a history of jumping out of his peel and flashing the neighbors. (He’s an anatomically correct banana, you know.) Sitting beside him was the Evil Monsieur Carrot with Mustache, who it turns out is quite adept at party pooping, wedding crashing, and backstabbing.
But when I spotted this adorable little misfit….
…..my heart was stolen.
I was immediately informed that this creature was known as Misunderstood Pit Bull, who “is a total geek. He’s got the entire Weird Al collection, excels at World of Warcraft, wears Star Trek jammies and sometimes dresses up like a cat when he’s alone in his room.”
How could I not be in love with him!? He is a perfect hybrid of my very own husband and our pit bull at home, whom I don’t think dresses up like a cat, but I do think secretly wants to. The rest of my little plushie Pit’s backstory is just as entertaining, and you can find it here.
Sarah Flake is an engaging, articulate, and extremely funny person, and I think her creations are absolutely wonderful. I know I will be returning for gifts for friends and family – and I suppose I’ll have to get something for my son, because this Misunderstood Pit is all mine. =)
