Whether you are new to my site or a long-time reader, you’ll easily pick up on my affinity for crafts and ideas that spark young minds. I’ve done plenty of posts devoted to my kids/other kids/any kids. Kids are fun! And I love it when I can come across something that makes them smile, be it a new craft, a fun recipe, or my personal favorite – books!
An avid reader all my life, I’ve instilled in my own children the love affair you can have with a great book, and a thirst for the joy of reading. So when approached to try a new one on my youngest, I of course said yes!
First of all, this children’s book is visually stunning. I absolutely love the illustration. I also love the fact that the book is based on the author’s own cat! As a wanna-be novelist myself, the golden rule I’ve heard for decades is “Write What You Know”. Well, clearly, that is true!
The BaxterCatBooks series is based on our real-life stray tabby cat, Baxter, who was born as a street cat in Oman. Although he had a rough start in life, he was lucky to find our family and we have spoilt him rotten! Being a street cat, he never stops looking for snacks, which inspired me to write the first book in the series called Baxter is Hungry.
Baxter sets out on a walk through his neighborhood where he searches for treats and meets a few funny friends along the way. The book is a fun, character-driven story with vibrant illustrations that will delight kids of all ages. We know you will love it too! ~ Emily Haupt
We received this great package from the author, including a fun bag (perfect for library hauls or anything really!), book marks, buttons, and of course, the star itself – the Baxter is Hungry Book and Baxter is Dreaming coloring book. We have both a dog and a cat, but I have to say, while I love both, I’m sort of partial to the quote on the bag, as it speaks to my love of books. Plus, our cat Zoey is my only fellow girl in a male dominated house! Ha!
My youngest has been moving on to larger chapter books lately, but he still dives deep into his favorite picture books. He was pretty excited for his new acquisition. (Though, let’s be honest, this kid is always happy for new stuff. He might be a hoarder, I’m not 100% sure yet.) 😉
First, he wanted to read about Baxter and his adventure!
He thoroughly enjoyed this children’s book, especially as our cat Zoey was actually his requested Christmas gift a few years ago. I think his affinity for cats made this the perfect book for him, and he was really excited to read it. He also loves to draw and color, so the accompanying coloring book was a great added bonus! Also, I always enjoy encouraging art in any form in my kids!
I highly encourage you to check out your own copy of this great children’s book!
