I have been DYING to be a part of the Fab Flippin’ Furniture Contest™ for what feels like forever, and I am so excited to join in this month’s challenge! Naturally, my project took to the very end of the time limits, but I’m still pretty happy with it.
April’s Challenge: “Pure Colors, Original Elegance”
This month featured two amazingly talented diy’ers and their projects:
Carrie at Thirty Eighth Street
Stacy at Anastasia’s Vintage
The totally fab hosts include:
I’ve previously shared how I made over my BFF’s dining room table, and alluded to her request to make over this china hutch along with it. Well, that time as arrived!
Admittedly, her dining room needed an update.
Ok, rookie mistake, I forgot to take a before pic until I’d already started removing doors. D’oh!
Anyway, you get the idea. Nicks, scratches, and generally OLD. Time to revamp.
So many thanks to Pure & Original for sponsoring this contest. It didn’t take long for the besty to choose a color (Slate Grey), and I can honestly say that this was an AMAZING paint to work with.
See the amazing array of colors to choose from here.
The coverage was awesome, and the color to die for. My besty was in LOVE with it. I tested it straight on one door, and with a primer on another. I will say, it did a great job regardless, but priming the piece required less paint coverage.
I was supplied with paint for this project for review. All opinions are mine.
The hardest part of this piece was the intricacy. So many little windows to tape off!
One more before to admire before the “reveal”.
After dismantling the unit, I used my orbital sander to try and clean up some of the more minor nicks and scratches. I’m happy to say I was able to actually able to get rid of a TON of marks on the unit, even deep ones! Some were not salvageable, but most were easily cleaned up!
Once lightly sanded, we primed and painted. LOTS of nights spent at the besty’s home after work.
Looks like fun, right!? Nothing like sleeping over at your friend’s house in your mid-thirties because you are too tired to drive home after painting all night. . . yeah, THAT happened.
I will repeat, I LOVE this paint. Primer or not, the coverage is AMAZE-BALLS. I had bigger issues with the poly, which I ended up doing two coats of a satin poly followed by a spray spar urethane in order to even out the brush strokes.
Ready for the reveal??
The besty was (is) on vacation in Mexico as I finished this, but her text says it all: “Omg, it is amazing!”
{Brushes shoulders off}
Ok, I’m actually nitpicking here and there, but I DO think the new look is a big improvement on her old, tired hutch. And it goes so well with the new dining room table!!
I had two quarts of paint for this project, and only just barely used one! Let’s just say, you can expect future projects using this color. . .
So keep an eye out!! 😉
