Homemade Sugar Cookies and a Christmas Tradition

Try a new tradition this year with this sugar cookie party!

Welcome to Day 8! I’m sharing a time honored tradition in my family history today, and giving you my great grandmother’s sugar cookie recipe!

With all the chaos of the season, I did NOT make these cookies again for this post. However, I have years and years of history to use, thankfully!

My family has had “Cookie Day” for as long as I can remember. It was originally (for me) at my Aunt B’s house, the ancestral home of my grandmother and great aunt B.

My cousins and I loved cutting out and decorating cookies, as well as sneaking bites of dough before it became a bad idea. LOL!

I was so happy to introduce my sons to this tradition. We host an annual “Cookie Day” every year to let the kids cut shapes out of the sugar cookie dough and then decorate to their hearts content.

(I’ll be honest. Most of them become inedible. But the kids love it!)

They generally look a hot mess, but its a lot of fun for the kids!

Kids always have so much fun decorating sugar cookies. I still sneak bites of the dough, even though its a bad idea now, lol
