Hello lovies!
I was so excited to be asked to participate in an IKEA hack contest! Loved getting to participate in this, hosted by Pittsburgh Paints and Hickory Hardware.
As part of the hack, I was given an IKEA RAST 3 drawer chest to make over.
Another part of the hack was that we got to choose from an assortment of paints from the Pittsburgh Paints line of Trim and Furniture Paint. I selected the Charcoal Grey and National Red for my project.
The second part involved replacing the basic wooden knobs that come with the dresser with custom hardware from Hickory Hardware.
I chose these pretty pulls called Palmetto by Hickory Hardware to update my piece. I love the pull ring of these, and they inspired the rest of my design.
I liked the natural wood look of the chest, so I wanted to keep some of that. With the help of some painters tape, I created a stripe of the Charcoal Grey across each drawer front, while painting the frame of the chest all grey.
I pulled out an old stencil I had on hand to add a splash of red to the piece. The awesome part of this paint is that it is a gel like mixture, and doesn’t require much to cover!
A close-up of my stenciled piece.
I’m really loving the raw wood showing through on this makeover, and the grey and red combo just seems amazing to me!
