I’m so sorry for my absence!!
Thank you, thank you to my faithful readers for not abandoning me…I promise I did not abandon you! Yes, I know, I’ve been seriously lacking on posts in the new year. Well, finally, I can share with you part of the reason …
We’re expecting #2!
We are over the moon with happiness of course, but blogging was relegated to the back burner during the first trimester as I was just so darn tired all the time! Sitting down to blog or even craft was just not appealing to me at all after a long day of work – half the time I was tucked into bed as soon as my three-year old was! (Can’t complain too much – sleeping is just soo nice.) I also found my spare hours eaten up by a fantastic surge in Birthday Blocks orders, with lots of cute new designs! I can’t wait to share those with you, too.
But now, with the first trimester safely behind us, I’ve got a lot more pep and lots of crafting to catch up on! My first one to share with you is the neat shirt I made for my son to help announce our coming arrival.
I of course started searching for inspiration where everyone searches – Pinterest! When searching for “2nd baby announcement” there were a lot of cute ideas:
Each of these is super adorable, but I couldn’t find one that made me go “OMG, let’s do that!” I think part of the problem is I like creating something new, and a lot of these have quite a few versions by now. Besides, what’s the fun of crafting without design?
So I stopped googling and started thinking. (Which is hard enough to do pregnant anyway.) I’m always looking for an excuse to use my Cricut, so I was trying to come up with something that would let me do that!
J is really getting into superheros nowadays, and his favorites are Spiderman and Superman. (Don’t fret, his Cars room is not going to waste – he still loves Cars!) Once upon a time, I had seen this t-shirt which I thought was really cute:
How cute is that? I thought it might be really adorable to make something similar, but announcing J’s new superhero status as a big brother.
Out comes the Cricut!
There was a Superman Cricut cartridge at one point, but I believe it has long since been retired, and now costs quite a bit to purchase. So I decided to make my own Superman logo using cuts from my Disney Hannah Montana cartridge, where there was a diamond shape I could manipulate, and a font as close to Superman as I could manage to find.
If you need a refresher on how to make an iron-on vinyl t-shirt, check out my original post here!
I ordered some iron-on vinyl in red, blue, and yellow, but due to the crazy snowstorms both here and elsewhere, the mail got severely delayed, and I had to wait weeks. By the time it showed up, I’m afraid my famous impatience reared its ugly head and I scrapped the idea to make the shirt look like it was coming out from under the white button down like the above image. I grabbed a blue toddler shirt from Hobby Lobby and slapped my design on it. Ironed. Done. Mama out.
J came home from daycare that day and lost his mind with excitement when he saw his new shirt. He’s been proudly boasting of his new Big Brother status ever since we broke the news, and having Superman help him boast some more just made his little day! Check out the Super-cheesy grin on his face!
Do you make a big deal out of announcing your pregnancy?
