On the 5th day of Christmas, I made an ugly shirt…
I’ve been busting out my crazy Christmas creativity for this 12 Days of Christmas blog hop, and today was no exception. Having been invited to an Ugly Christmas Sweater party this weekend, I decided (naturally) to make it an ugly sweater DIY using a few glaring decorations from the Dollar Store.
I walked into 5Below, so technically not the actual Dollar Store, but still cheap finds! I walked out with two light up necklaces, some sparkly clothespins, a tunic, and a #ELFIE glittered headband.
I didn’t end up using the clothespins, but everything else worked well! Time to get to work!
First part of my ugly sweater diy was to glue down my large, light up ornament necklace.
I used gorilla glue to secure the battery pack to the back of the shirt, and another dollop to the center ornament on the front of the shirt.
Tip: Insert a piece of cardboard between the shirt layers while the glue is drying. You might have to peel a bit of the cardboard off the interior, but you won’t glue the shirt together when the glue seeps through!
I repeated this step with the smaller Christmas light necklace, though I only glued on the battery pack this time.
I tore off the letters from the headband to glue on individually. I actually wasn’t sure where to place them at first, because of the bulk from the necklaces. I didn’t want to go below the necklaces ~ a bit close to either the bust or gut arenas, and this time of year, neither of those need amplification!!
I opted to just make a truly gaudy neckline.
I loved that the print of this shirt mimicked that whole knitted sweater look to some extent. I’m quite satisfied with my ugly sweater diy, actually!
