This is an easy craft to do and a fun #ElfontheShelf idea to boot! This elf sized snowman makes for a cute morning surprise! #12DaysofChristmas
We have a lot of fun with our Elf on the Shelf, Fred. He gets into all sorts of hijinks, as you can see in my post about his antics. (You can also score some great free printables!) My kids got a kick out of Fred building his little elf sized snowman!

Now let’s make an Elf sized ornament!
Supplies
- Polymer Clay
- Acrylic Paint
- Fabric scrap, or thin ribbon
- toothpick
- wooden knob
First step is to warm up the polymer clay by kneading it with your hands. Once it becomes pliable, roll three separate balls, large, middle, and small, for the snowman’s body.
You will also want to roll a small little carrot shaped cone for a nose. This should be baked separately, since it will not take nearly as long as the body.
I used a toothpick in the center of my snowman’s body to hold it together. I wasn’t sure if it was necessary, but I did think it would be helpful to keep my snowman’s shape. I didn’t want his head to roll off!
Preheat your oven to 275 degrees. You will bake your snowman for 15 minutes per each 1/2 inch thickness. My snowman was backed for 35 minutes. Let cool completely.
I had this little wooden knob in my crafty stash {which I why I started my Crafty Destash Challenge, I have too many odds and ends!}. Finding this little knob is actually what inspired my elf sized snowman, because I thought it would make a great little top hat! Just paint black!
Using acrylic paint, dab on coal eyes, mouth, and buttons. I also gave my entire snowman a once over with white acyrlic. You might end up with some browned areas from the oven back, so this helps to cover those.
Use hot glue to secure your “carrot” nose, and paint orange.
Once all the paint has dried, take a thin piece of fabric or ribbon and tie your snowman a little scarf.
I dabbed two small dots of hot glue underneath to both secure it and have it lay as I wanted. Set your snowman out with your elf and {graciously} give him or her all the credit!
I added to the scene a bit by sprinkling some white craft sand on the table and setting our elf sized snowman on top of it, as though Fred had magically created him from “elf snow”.
The boys were enthralled by Fred creating a snowman inside the house, especially such a little one! I love the joy on their little faces when they find Fred has been having fun in the night. It’s all about that Christmas magic!

Love this! I need to give our elves some Christmasy props. Visiting from 12 Days of Christmas.
How cute is that idea! I’ll bet your kids were excited to see that snowman inside!
Our elves might be building a snowman soon!
He does have the perfect little top hat and quite the handsome friend as well. Really cute idea.
