For those of you who waited patiently for new posts, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!! I’m sorry to have taken an unexpected break in posting, but suddenly I found myself with a dozen projects and nothing finished that I could share! Crafty blogger nightmare.
Anyway, I’m back up an running, more or less, but I have exciting news! I will be doing a FULL WEEK devoted to my love of loves. . . Disney! Actually, this will be a pretty specific week – next weekend, I’m hosting my youngest’s first birthday party. Since I’ve dropped the ball on so many of his milestones (second kid and all that jazz), I decided to outdo myself for his first birthday. You know, for all the memories he’ll have of it. {Sigh}
So stay tuned in early August for a full accounting of the party details, including free party printables you can use for ANY Disney themed occasion!
Ok, on to the rest.
So if you follow me on Instagram {which I shyly suggest you do!}, you would have seen this sneak peek I shared a while back:
I scored this table and a mate awhile back on a freak bookoo find. {Don’t have bookoo? It’s like a family friendly Craigslist.} Anyway, this lovie was in dire need of a makeover. Lots of dings and gouges, substance but no style.
Nothing like a great coat of paint! In this instance, I used DecoArt Chalky Finish paint in Relic. It gave me a really great base coat for the table, but it definitely needed something else as well. Some style was definitely needed!
Have you heard of Modern Masters? They have a amazing products like theme and architectural paints, but I liked their metallic paint as a great addition to my project. I couldn’t make up my mind, so I grabbed a few color choices; Sapphire, Black Pearl, Pink Pearl, Snowflake, Black Pearl from the Metallic Paint Collection. The cool thing is you can make different shades by mixing the colors! They have a whole formula for it:
· Tints are made by mixing 10% of a standard pre-mixed metallic color with 90% Snowflake (ME707)
· Shades are made by mixing 50% of a standard pre-mixed metallic color with 50% of Black Pearl (ME700)
I debated mixing up a new tint, but I opted to go with pure Snowflake to contrast my dark grey. I also wanted to add some visual interest, so I pulled out a stencil from my stash and got to work.
I still had some stencil adhesive leftover from my Autumn Sign, so that worked out well!
Using the little foam brushes that are my absolute favorite for most paint projects, I got to work. I lightly added coat after coat of the Snowflake Metallic paint until I had a nice opaque and shiny appearance. True to form, when I peeled back my stencil I had a bit of bleed-through, but a few touch ups of the chalk paint with a fine point brush took care of that.
Once I was satisfied with my clean-up, and applied a few coats of semi-gloss poly to seal and protect my pretty new table. A quick trip to the hardware store for a new, polished knob for the front door, and I was all set!
Our front room is the most neglected so far on the main floor – all we’ve had in it is a couch! Later, I’ll be sharing my gallery wall in that room, but outside of that it is a pretty sad, lonely space. I’d already moved one of our living room side tables in there and replaced it with the ugly friend of this table, which better blocked access for the baby to the outlets behind the couch. {Which just reminds me that I have another table left to get to. A crafter’s work is never done.}
Isn’t she pretty??
I love the pop of red from my son’s photo block against the shiny metallic white. I cannot wait to use my other Modern Masters colors on another project!
I highly suggest you try this Metallic Paint Collection. To find your local Modern Masters retailer, you can use their Retail Locator or their Online Shop.
You can also find them on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Google+ and YouTube

What project would you use metallic paint on?
I love linking up at these parties!
