Dollar Store Ornament Wreath, aka: The Wreath That Almost Broke Me
I think the words ‘dollar store” cause a spike in our interest level whenever we read about crafty things. We like the idea of doing things on the cheap, but having it look like a million bucks, don’t we?
Well, I can’t say that my dollar store ornament wreath looks like a million bucks, but it ain’t half bad.
Ready to plunge headfirst into the wild world of my dollar store ornament wreath saga? Well, tough luck because we’re just going to casually stroll through the chaos instead. Picture this: a pile of budget-friendly ornaments, a frazzled DIY-er (that’s me), and a glue gun that had its fair share of opinions. I put it out there all the time that this blog is all about crafty endeavors AND . . . fails. Because crafting is all about the messy bits, right? (And maybe a little bit about the survival).
Well, this one didn’t fail, but it was a wing-and-a-prayer style project!
(On that note, I’d l also like to declare that I have ZERO interest in trying this again. Zip, zilch, nada. Never.)
I also think my OCD tendencies caused me to become overly irritated trying not to get caught up in symmetry, while still not letting it become a free-for-all. Cuz, balance.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN DOLLAR STORE ORNAMENT WREATH
In hindsight I suppose it wasn’t horribly difficult to make my ornament wreath, just annoying and tedious. I spent multiple evenings at my dining room table with my hot glue gun er-“glued” to my hand. I wrapped a wire wreath frame in fabric and hot-glued the various ornaments to it. That’s it, project done. Wasn’t that helpful?
Just kidding! Here’s what you need to get started.

Dollar Store Ornament Wreath Supplies
Wire wreath frame (I used 24″)
Fabric strips, wide (this will be hidden from view, so design or color doesn’t really matter much)
Ribbon or other adornment
Directions
Wrapping the Wreath
I actually used an old, beat up sweater my husband wore to an ugly sweater party and tore it into wide strips. And if I’m totally honest, in some areas, I simply wrapped a full sleeve around and around. Hey, sometimes I get impatient!
Then I wrapped the strips around a wire wreath frame, to give me a solid base for the ornaments. **You could use a foam wreath frame instead, just be sure you’re not hot gluing directly to it or you’ll melt it.
Attaching the Ornaments
Once you have a decently covered wreath form, you can start to glue ornaments to it. This is the painstaking, frustrating, swear-inducing step of the process. Emphasis on “pain” if you’re a glue gun novice or plain old clumsy. (I definitely signed my digits a few times!)
Try to mix up the sizes and styles for a more interesting appeal! I did the outer edge and moved inward, which I think made it a little easier to spot the bare areas. I tried to mix up the size of the ornaments, and cover every inch of the fabric for a full look. Honestly, I still missed a few spots, but the wreath is so busy, it is hard to tell.
How like our Elf, Fred, to take the credit the next morning!
Hi what size wire wreath ring did you use ria x
I honestly don’t recall exactly, but it was definitely on the larger scale.
