So I know with my original post for my Disneyland Party How To Series, I said a week’s worth of posts. Well, I wasn’t kidding around, you’re going to get a whole lot more before this is over! I just didn’t anticipate some issues popping up that kept it from being a solid week straight. {Insert blush.} So you got a little breather, and now we’re back in the game!!
If you are just joining the party, don’t forget to visit the previous posts on my Disneyland Invitations and Disney First Birthday Outfit.
I may have gone a little cray-cray in my Disneyland Themed Party Decorations. Maybe.
I wanted H’s first birthday to be ROCKIN‘! So, in true Crafty fashion, I drove myself crazy turning our house into Disneyland for his party.
No, seriously. I went nuts.
At least when people looked at my like some crazed Pinterest-wacky mom during the party, I was able to mumble “blog post”, and move on.
When I came up with the Disneyland theme for the party, I knew before any other aspect that I wanted to turn each corner of the house into a separate “land” of the park. Using the layout of my home and the layout of the park set up a loose blueprint. Let me take you on the tour, and don’t forget to go all the way through to get your free printables!!
Let’s take a tour, shall we?
Entrance
Boom! The entrance to the Happiest Place on Earth! Thanks to an insider at a broadcasting studio, I was able to score a giant print (secured to foam board) of the iconic castle of Disneyland. This also doubled as a great photo backdrop for our guests!
I propped the print on our foyer entry table and lined the front with Mickey Mouse Hats, some old Mickey outfits H outgrew, a copy of his invitation in a frame, and our first free printable! I created this print of the famous quote from Walt Disney himself.
You can download it at the bottom of this post!!
Obviously, you can’t go to Disneyland without balloons!! We got these balloons at the Dollar Store, and they doubled as take home gifts for the kids who attended.
Do you spy the Jungle Cruise in the background? Head over to Adventureland and check it out!!
Adventureland
A plastic blue tablecloth (falling off the wall, I now notice!) obscured the family photos for the Jungle Cruise ride – adorably embellished with a Jungle themed birthday banner and assorted animals toys. The red striped “awning” is yet another plastic tablecloth, and we secured two wooden beams inside heavy clay pots for “posts”. I considered throwing a brown sheet over the couch, but nixed the idea. Less is occasionally more.
For each land, I used a vintage Disneyland poster in a frame to announce the location. You know, just in case, there was some shmuck at the party who didn’t get it! ;p
New Orleans Square
For New Orleans Square, we divided it between the two main attractions, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. The food was the star of this land, so don’t miss the post on my Disneyland Themed Party Food still to come!!
The Grim Grinning Ghosts printable I borrowed from a store selling it on a phone case. Since it isn’t mine, and it wasn’t free, it is not included in the printables on this page. But you can find it on the phone case here!
Frontierland
A few household items helped to build Frontierland in our dining room. A cast iron skillet, a wooden rocking horse, some twine, and a pair of old cowboy boots. All this with a little gingham tablecloth and a Jessie doll and we were set! Our rustic dining room table was a great backdrop, and we kept Critter Country in mind with a cooler placed on top labeled with our “Splash Mountain Water”. 😉
The rocking horse was my husband’s as a child. 🙂 You can’t see it in these pictures, but on the table is a cowboy hat – signed by Darius Rucker!
Main Street USA
Past the foyer and into the kitchen, I created Main Street. . . on a little corner counter top. But hey, the sign and the cute popcorn maker kinda make it, don’t they!?
Fantasyland
Fantasyland was the main part of the kitchen, with the bulk of the food. The center island served as the main course area and was decorated largely with store-bought Disney Princess party decorations. We taped characters to the cabinet doors, and standing princesses adorned the island around the food.
Like I mentioned, a whole other post regarding the food is yet to come, but technically this still counts as decoration as well. A Dollar Store tea set in bright colors was the perfect companion to our iced tea! The large bright tea cups are metal planters from Michaels – which I scored on clearance!! {Fist pump}
It wouldn’t have been Disneyland if Tinker Bell wasn’t hovering somewhere! I created Ms. Bell with my Cricut using the Tinker Bell & Friends set. I placed her in the top corner of the entrance to the living room from the kitchen (Fantasyland). She was well hidden, as all fairies should be – we sort of had to point her out to the guests!
She lives in my office now, fluttering over my Organization Station. 🙂
Tomorrowland
Ok, so Tomorrowland I sort of chintzed on. I’d done a fair bit of work on all the other lands, and Tomorrowland happened to be situated in our main living room, where everyone was hanging out. There wasn’t a lot of room left, and I needed to throw the dessert table in there.
I also technically ignored Toon Town (which according to the map would have been our backyard.) I settled for a giant rented bounce house and called it a day. If you’ve never rented a bounce house for a kid’s party, they are the BOMB. Basically the babysitter! Love them.
Pictured above, you can see I laid Disney Trivia cards around the house for some fun for the adults who were mingling. Everyone got a kick out of them!
Lastly, I’ve discovered the value of having some fun, usable decorations at any party. So, armed with my Cricut and my slew of Disney® Cartridges, I created some fun photo props!
Whew!! I’m exhausted just remembering this party! Thankfully, it turned out better than I could have dreamed, and was truly an event to remember. We even still have the Disney photo props in the basement playroom!
Don’t forget to get your free downloads!! I gathered up all these vintage posters from Amazing Facts. and of course the printable I created!! All printables on C’mon Get Crafty are for personal use only. When sharing, please refer back to the original post.

What’s the craziest you’ve gone for a special occasion?
As THE BIGGEST Mickey MOuse fan there is, I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED your post and creativity! Thank you for inspiring me! I was born and bred in New York, now an Aussie who makes Australia my home. I used to have a food blog and food is my passion. I have done many big theme parties over the years and like you, some may feel it is over the top, but is something I LOVE to do.
One of the most memorable (and there were many) LOL….I decorated the house as Edinburgh Castle in Scotland serving a creative twist on Scottish foods, bagpipes…the works LOL LOL A party our friends will never forget. We are “the party people” With time, enthusiasm and searching, a party can be creative innovately and frugally, but still provide the WOW factor. Thank you again.
