I was a tardy girl this month, and missed getting my project into the group on time, but I still wanted to share my project with you! I’m pretty happy with it. 🙂
Romance isn’t dead, but it doesn’t have to be all hearts and flowers either! I made this sassy valentine’s day decor because it perfectly summarizes my marriage, ha ha! Mr. Crafty and I enjoy a healthy blend of loving, caring, and sarcasm. . .and I wouldn’t change a thing!
The idea behind this month’s Silhouette Creators Challenge was “Refresh“. Take something old and make it new again. Well, I have plenty of old things lying around {be sure to check out my crafty destash challenge post next week!}, and I had a few ideas, but finally ended up with this old chalkboard as my project.
You might remember this chalkboard from my review of Chalk-Ola Chalk Markers last year. . . er, two years ago I guess. While J had a fun time with it for a while, like any kid he eventually buried the chalkboard in Mom’s craft stash and moved on to other mediums. Having created him an entire chalkboard table might have had a hand in that. . .
Anyway, I decided this tired old thing could be made new again with little work involved.

Here’s what I used to create my Sassy Valentine’s Day Decor:
Rust-Oleum Chalkboard Spray Paint
Chalkboard or surface of choice
Matte vinyl in white and red
My Silhouette Cameo machine
Design purchased in the Silhouette Store
I love how easy it is to shop Silhouette designs, and they are so cheap!! The wreath and phrase were downloaded for less than $2! Saved me the time and energy of having to create my own sassy design, and saving time is worth it’s weight in gold to me!
Here’s How To Make It:
-
If need be, spray your surface with black chalkboard paint and allow to dry. You normally “cure” a chalkboard by rubbing chalk on it, but since I was using vinyl I didn’t bother.
-
Create or import your design in your Silhouette machine. Adjust cut settings to vinyl, load mat, and cut.
-
Weed excess vinyl from your design and discard. Apply transfer tape to the design and situate it on your chalkboard. Rub hard over the design before peeling away the transfer tape. If using more than one color or cut, you will need to do this multiple times. Mine took two transfers.
Enjoy your creation!
Mr. Crafty got a nice chuckle out of it. 😉
