The Addams Family Pumpkins

September 25, 2017August 1, 2018 Megan 10 comments
Have you seen the Addams Family - in pumpkin form?? This is a fun and unique front porch display for Halloween!

It’s #MovieMondayChallenge time, and I’m SUPER excited about my Addams Family pumpkins for Halloween!

On the last Monday of each month, I challenge a group of bloggers to participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge. We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!

This month’s challenge was. . . . HALLOWEEN!!!! Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite Halloween-themed film for this challenge.

For this challenge, I chose The Addams Family. I absolutely love this movie, and the sequel, Addams Family Values.

If you’ve never seen either, make it a priority this Halloween season. Raul Julia is a lovable Gomez to Angelica Huston’s slinky and saucy Morticia. The two of them are #parentinggoals and #romancegoals combined. Love them! (Yes, they they let their children try to murder each other, but in the Addams clan, that’s survivable. The point is they embraced their children for who they were, even in the sequel when they were tricked into believing their kids wanted to – gasp! – go to summer camp!)

When I originally picked this film, I assumed I’d end up making a sign with a quote or something. That tends to be my go-to. I don’t honestly remember where I got the idea to create Addams Family pumpkins, but once I got it, it took root and I was excited! How fun would this be??

The Addams Family has six key members. Ok, seven, counting Granny, but I didn’t include her because I didn’t have the pumpkins. Sorry Granny.

For my Addams Family pumpkins, I created Lurch, the butler; Gomez and Morticia, Uncle Fester, Wednesday and Pugsley, and of course, Thing.

If you grew up with the TV show or watched the films, you’ll know a few facts about the Addamses….Gomez and Morticia are madly in love, Fester is bald and sleep deprived based on the shadows under his eyes, and Thing is the family pet….hand.

My original plan was to create illusions of the Addams Family, rather than actual faces. Gomez’s mustache, Fester’s eyes, Morticias hair and lips….yeah, that all went south. I mean, I started that way, but they looked so….boring. it wasn’t reading at all. So I ended up going full face on everyone except Wednesday and Pugsley. Their pumpkins were too small to make faces of, so I created their iconic striped shirt and button down dress instead. They actually ended up being my favorites.

I ordered this set of prop hands from Amazon for Thing. All the pumpkins were either re-used from my Funkins stash or bought on sale at the craft store. Morticia I made slinky by using a gourd rather than a pumpkin, and giving her a little extra height on top of a plastic pot painted black.

A few straw bales, some spiderweb fabric, cobwebs, and spiders and we were set!

This Addams Family display is probably one of my better Halloween creations! It’s not my target holiday, I’m definitely a Christmas girl. However, I am loving this!

I love the Addams Family, both the black and white show and the movies. And your pumpkin family is adorable. I love you Wednesday and Pugsley pumpkings, and I think it’s hilarious that you used a gourd for Morticia. What a great Halloween display!

These are so cool. Love the idea of faces on the pumpkin. Including this in a pumpkin roundup.
