Last Halloween, we dropped the ball. You know how it goes; waiting until the last minute to grab a costume, only to find the options severely limited. J couldn’t seem to make up his three year old mind (shocking!) about who he wanted to be. We went from Jake to Mickey to . . . I don’t even remember the line up.
By the time we got to the store, he picked Woody. We went home, and Mommy was smart enough to have him put it on right away, tags and all. Sure enough, five seconds was about as long as he was willing to wear that getup.
Nope. Not gonna let a $30 costume go unused due to toddler temperament. No way.
But with Halloween literally a day away, I was not about to try another store-bought deal and have it rejected. What do do?? Duh!! D.I.Y.
J was pretty into The Incredibles at the time, so that seemed like an easy solution. Hence, I present to you my:
DIY Disney Incredibles Costume
This has to be the easiest thing I’ve whipped up on the fly, and it turned out really fantastic! (If I do say so myself.) I already had pretty much everything I needed:
Long sleeved red shirt
Red pants
Black underwear
Iron On vinyl in Orange, Yellow, White, and Black
I actually didn’t have iron on vinyl in all the colors I needed, but a quick run to the local craft store yielded the next best thing: duct tape paper.
Of course, I used my Best of Pixar Cricut Cartridge on my Cricut to design my Incredibles logo, but it is a simple enough logo that you could absolutely diy it with a print out/trace/cut method.
I cut the design in the four color sections and applied it to a red turtleneck from J’s closet. I had to run out and buy a pair of red leggings, but for the black part of the bottoms I just turned a pair of Batman briefs inside out. Done!
J was pretty happy with it!
Have you ever made your own costume?
