Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

If you’ve been around my site a few times, you’ve probably noticed that I tend to go a little far out for my sons’ birthday parties. From turning my entire house into Disneyland for my youngest’s first birthday party, to recreating the dentist’s fish tank for a Finding Nemo party, I tend to get a little crazy.  Earlier this summer I created a Radiator Springs cake and Cars party decor for H, and last month J asked for a Super Mario party.  I got a head start with these easy Super Mario Mason Jar decorations.

Super Mario Party Backdrop

You guys, this was probably one of my greatest party backdrops ever, and it was SOOO easy!! I bought a folding poster board at Walmart and lined the majority of it with painter’s tape. I originally did that to paint it, but the tape was a perfect blue, so I only had to paint the bottom! I also purchased this set of repositionable decals from Amazon and let J set up a fun Super Mario scene. I also nabbed this simple party pack and used the Happy Birthday sign as part of the table set up.

Super Mario Party Food

The party food is really where I had the most fun. My husband, being a giant gamer himself, was actually quite helpful in coming up with ideas! I wanted it to be easy, simple food. We served burgers and hot dogs from the grill to the adults, nothing too crazy there. For the kids, as well as for snacks, we got a little more creative.

Super Mario Fireballs

One giant plastic tub of cheese balls from Sam’s Club later, and we had a very kid-friendly snack with a perfect tie in to the Mario Brothers.

Fire Flower Veggie Platter

Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

This platter may seem like an excellent attempt to keep my kids healthy, but it was purely selfish, lol. I wanted to make sure I had some healthy options for MY snacking needs! I saw a few pins like this on Pinterest and it seemed like a great idea for some lighter fare. Sliced cucumbers, sliced yellow pepper, grape tomatoes, and a veggie dip! You could add sliced black olives to the dip to create the eyes, but I thought of it too late.

Red and Green Koopa  Shells

Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

This was an impulsive spark of imagination when I was shopping. I saw these beautiful giant bunches of red and green grapes. Knowing that my kids love grapes, I tried quickly to think of how to work in a Super Mario theme, and it came to me – the Koopa shells!

Super Mario Brothers Pizza Bites

Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

Ok, it doesn’t get simpler than this. Another impulse buy, but when I saw a giant box of mini pizzas in the freezer section, it occurred to me that you can’t really have a Mario Bros party and not mention or serve some version of pizza! The kids gobbled these up!

Stuffed Goombas

Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

These stuffed mushrooms have been on my list to share for a while, and I will be sharing the recipe later this week – so stay tuned! They were perfect for stuffed Goombas! (And they disappear FAST!)

Super Mario Party Cake
Any gamer kid is going to flip over these fun, easy, and frugal Super Mario party ideas for their next birthday party! Fun ideas for food and party decorations!

I have to give my husband credit for this wonderful idea. He is the one who proposed the Chomp Chain cake idea, which I loved because it required only circular cake pans and little artistic effort. This was an easy cake to make that looks super impressive!

I used box cake mix in cupcake tins and circular pans, doubled up with a layer of frosting. I DID make the frosting myself (brushes shoulders off), but that was probably the majority of the effort involved.  I bought colored sugar sheets to create the mouth, teeth, and eye of the cake. I hand cut triangles for the teeth and used various sized jar lids to trace cuts for the eye.

I actually had a lot of fun making this cake and upping my party game – and the kids loved it! Using one of the block decals as the Chomp Chain’s anchor on the cake board was an added touch, IMO. Plus, my backdrop doubled for the cake table backdrop! All in all, it was probably one of my easier but still super fun parties!

Hi Victoria! The sign up should have taken you directly to the cards to access/edit/download. I will check my settings, but in the meantime, I will send the link directly to your email! Sorry for any confusion.

Wonderful! I believe the template will show you a default option to print them, but if you click the “X” to close the print option menu, then you can click “Share”, and select “download”. You can download the template as a JPEG, PNG, or PDF file and then print from your home computer. If you have any other questions, please feel free to DM me on social or email me – megan@cmongetcrafty.com
